Comprehensive charging infrastructure has been established at remote mine sites, supported by integrated renewable energy microgrids. • Chile: The copper mining industry has become a global benchmark for electrifica- tion in high-altitude, water-scarce environ- ments. Codelco and BHP have deployed hundreds of battery electric vehicles inte- grated with solar and wind power. • Canada: A pioneer in underground mining electrification, Canada's provincial programmes in Ontario and Quebec mandate zero-emission underground equipment by 2030, with strong financing support from natural resources funds. 4. EV Implementation Status in Indian Mining 4.1 Coal India Limited (CIL) – The Sector Benchmark Coal India Limited, contributing over 80% of India's domestic coal output and operating across seven subsidiary companies, represents the most significant institutional actor in Indian mining electrification. As of FY2024, CIL operated 178 electric vehicles across its mine sites [3]. The corporation has set an ambitious target of 681 EVs by FY2025-26, implying a 283% growth in fleet size within approximately 24 months [3].
