14 Advancing Sustainable Mining: Miyawaki Plantation and Biodiversity Park Initiatives at JK Cement Limited, Nimbahera (Rajasthan) Author: Nikit Vyas, Sr Manager; OP Sharma, Sr Manager; Ashish Dabhi, Assistant Manager JK Cement Limited, Nimbahera (Rajasthan) ABSTRACT JK Cement Limited, since its inception in 1975 with a modest production capacity of 0.3 million tons at its first grey cement plant in Nimbahera, Rajasthan has steadily evolved as one of the leading cement manufacturers in the region with a current combined plant capacity at Nimbahera and Mangrol of 8.43 million tons / annum. This steady growth over five decades has been achieved through a strong foundation of sustainable mining and mineral conservation practices. The company has adopted scientificminingmethods, systematic mine planning, andmaximum resource recovery to minimize wastage of valuable limestone reserves. Concurrently, progressive land restoration, biodiversity enhancement through Miyawaki Plantation & Biodiversity Park development, and efficient use of water and energy have ensured environmental protection and community well- being. By integrating mineral conservation with ecological stewardship, JK Cement demonstrates that responsible mining practices are not only critical for resource security but also serve as a driver of long-term industrial growth. JK Cement Limited, operates under a robust Integrated Management System (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001), aligning cement production with strong environmental commitment. INTRODUCTION Cement production is a resource-intensive process that depends on a steady supply of high- quality limestone. In Nimbahera Cluster, our two cement plants at Nimbahera & Mangrol source their limestone froma cluster of fivemines, of which the Maliakhera Limestone Mine is of the greater significance. Supplying nearly 50% - 60% of the total requirement, Maliakhera Mine has become the backbone of our operations.
