Ms Aparna Dutt Sharma
Ms Aparna Dutt Sharma is the Secretary General, Cement Manufacturers’ Association (CMA), the apex representative body of large cement manufacturers in India. CMA’s activities are focussed on policy advocacy and government outreach with the objective of providing members a consolidated voice on environmental, logistics, taxation, alternate fuels, sustainability, innovation, waste consumption, etc., as well as representing the Indian cement industry at national and international forums.
Ms Sharma has about 27 years of rich work experience in leadership roles in dynamic environments across national, international and corporate institutions of repute. Her specialisms include nation/state brand strategy, marketing communications, government relations, public affairs, media, international trade promotion and business advisory. Ms Sharma has a successful track record of leading high impact led nation brand initiatives across all forms of media globally in more than 25 countries besides strategic sectoral brand promotion campaigns under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. She has been the Founding Member and Chief Executive Officer, India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), an INR 200 crore Trust established by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, to promote the Made in India label in markets overseas.
Previously consulting with Ernst & Young LLP, India, as a Senior Advisor for Branding and Communications, Ms Sharma enabled evolve strategy to enable various state governments articulate their brand management and positioning with a particular focus on investment promotion campaigns, both within India and overseas markets. She began her career with the Embassy of Italy, New Delhi, where she was part of all strategic trade and cooperation initiatives between India and Italy. She has also notably contributed to the Economist Intelligence Unit India (EIU India), part of The Economist Group UK, by way of country strategy papers and leading its business information programme in her subsequent assignment covering over 150 multinational corporations in India. She is credited with having negotiated the first ever global partnership between The Economist Conferences and McKinsey & Co in India. In her subsequent assignment as Head of the CII Europe Division, she spearheaded international business promotion initiatives with each of the countries of the European Union and India. Ms Sharma is a Member of the Advisory Board, Nation/Place Brand Global Forum, London, which is considered amongst the most premier global gatherings in the field of nation and place branding. She has been an Expert Observer – Asia with the prestigious Place Brand Observer journal, New Zealand. Ms Sharma has been Vice President of World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) based in Geneva. WAIPA comprises investment promotion agencies from more than 130 countries in the world.
Ms Sharma is credited with leading country brand and investment promotion modules and strategy workshops for UNCTAD for overseas markets. She has been a Member of core group invited by the Prime Minister of Bhutan in 2015 to promote Brand Bhutan. She has been the spokesperson for the Department of Commerce, Government of India, for major advocacy sectoral campaigns.
Ms Aparna Dutt Sharma holds a Masters degree in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi, India. She holds an Advance Diploma in the Italian language and a Diploma in the Spanish language. Ms Sharma holds a Diploma in Cultural Linguistics in Italian from the Universita’ per gli Studenti Stranieri, Italy. She is a certified trainer from the Global Berlitz Training Centre. Well versed in digital media marketing, she has successfully completed SEO Tool SET Training with the famed US based firm Bruce Clay.
